How do we calculate your fees?

There are typically four types of fees in the Generous platform.

1. The monthly subscription fee
2. The platform fee
3. The merchant fee
4. Any applied optional Module Fee

Monthly Subscription & Module Fees

The monthly subscription fee and the Module fee are flat fees calculated and invoiced monthly to your organisation. 

For example, the popular ESSENTIALS PLAN includes a flat $50 per month subscription fee. If you chose to have integration with Xero you would be charged an additional $50 per month.

Individual Donor Fee

Additionally, donors are charged a fee that includes two parts. A platform fee and a merchant/gateway fee.

Example Donations

To break this down for you, as an example, Joe donates $100 using his Visa Credit Card to his favourite charity. When the charity subscribes to the following plans...

LITE PLAN 

• Platform Fee: 3% or $3 is charged as a platform fee. 
• Merchant & Gateway Fee: 2% or $2 is charged using our Merchant and Gateway
• A total of 5% or $5 is charged 

ESSENTIALS PLAN 

• Platform Fee: 2% or $2 is charged as a platform fee. 
• Merchant & Gateway Fee: 2% or $2 is charged using our Merchant and Gateway
• A total of 4% or $4 is charged 

PREMIUM PLAN 

• Platform Fee: 1% or $1 is charged as a platform fee. 
• Merchant & Gateway Fee: 2% or $2 is charged using our Merchant and Gateway
• A total of 3% or $3 is charged 

Two other variables may exist.

Direct Debit

One, Joe pays by Direct Debit. This incurs a typically lower fee of 1% for the LITE PLAN, 0.75% for the ESSENTIALS PLAN and 0.5% for the PREMIUM PLAN. 

• So, rather than paying a 2% merchant/gateway fee for his credit card he only incurs a 0.75% merchant/gateway fee using direct debit on the ESSENTIALS PLAN.

Your Merchant Account / Payment Gateway

The second variable is your charity may want to use its own bank's Merchant Account / Payment Gateway to help reduce the fee even further. 

Please note that you can only activate this on our ESSENTIALS & PREMIUM PLAN, not the LITE PLAN. 

The transaction fee is now made up of your charity's merchant fee, and, additionally our gateway fee, being 1% on the ESSENTIALS PLAN and 0.5% on the PREMIUM PLAN.

• So, for example, if you have a PREMIUM PLAN and an agreement with your own Merchant (Financial Service Provider), for example, of 0.8%. You would add + our fee 0.5% + plus your merchant fee of 0.8% which equals = a 1.3% fee for both the Merchant and Gateway being a total of $1.30 using the above example. 

A possible disadvantage of using your own merchant account is, if you wish to utilise multiple bank accounts you are now restricted to using one only.

Consider Making the Donation Fee Free

One of the great features of the Generous for Charity Platform is you can (optionally) ask your donors to cover the cost of the fee in the payment process. Therefore, making the donation 100% fee-free. E.g. They pay $102.30 and you receive $100.
